One of the highlights of a tour that includes the Sahara Desert is getting there.  The travel route takes us through the High Atlas Mountains on a breathtakingly beautiful, winding trail through a variety of landscapes, passing ancient Kasbahs and villages, taking tea and often lunch along the way at small, local establishments.  Descending from the mountains we arrive in the small city of Ouarzazate, considered the doorway to the desert and known for its film studios and popularity as a filming location due to the ethereal light.  We offer a few different options for venturing into the Sahara, but all include traveling through green valleys and seeing remarkable oases full of lush palm trees in the midst of this dry region as well as numerous ancient Kasbahs.  In the past these magical mud castles were inhabited by the local Berber tribes, these days you’ll often see huge numbers of storks nesting in the high towers.  The South of Morocco has so much to see and experience and in many ways really captures the authentic heart of this beautiful country.  We highly recommend making sure you include it in your travels with us!
Merzouga
Find yourself in a postcard scene as you cross the Erg Chebbi on a camel’s back on your way to either a comfortable camp or Berber bivouac to spend the night with the nomads under the Saharan stars in the middle of an ocean of dunes.
Mhamid
The other door to the desert is located in Mhamid from where we travel by 4X4 to the most remote camp in the Sahara, Erg Chigaga.  If you have a few days, we can offer you a complete loop.
Fint Oasis
About 20 minutes outside Ouarzazate is the stunning oasis of Fint and the small village situated there.  Fint, in Berber, means hidden.  We’ll take a brief stop here for Moroccan tea while experiencing a little of what being at a village oasis is like.
Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah
Aït Ben Haddou is a ksar of Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site, about 30 minutes outside Ouarzazate.  It is a very impressive, large, traditional Kasbah comprised of earthen buildings and surrounded by walls
